Summer school 2016

28 August - 10 September 2016

Innovations in Sustainable Supply Chain Management was the topic of the second Summer School held as part of GSBI project in cooperation with partner universities from abroad from the end of August to the beginning of September 2016. Thirty students from Germany, Poland, Finland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic took part in this event. There were a lot of interesting activities prepared for students - including once again excursions, also lectures by tutors from participating universities and case studies, which gave the students the possibility to take a look under the "hood" of green solutions in logistics. Under the terms of the accompanying program students had an opportunity to visit Prague's historical centre or the mountain hotel with the transmission tower Ještěd, the dominant feature of the city of Liberec, and also the nearby iQLANDIA science centre.

A visit to the real operations at the automobile factory was indisputably a great benefit for students, enabling the connection of theoretical knowledge with practice. Students visited individual operations/sections at ŠKODA AUTO, such as the foundry, ironworks, welding and car assembly. They also attended logistics operations outside of ŠKODA AUTO, where they gained the opportunity to see the Just-in-Time methods in practice. Students could also personally try individual principles of lean production at the Lean Centre of ŠKODA AUTO, the biggest training centre of its kind in the Czech Republic and one of 25 training centres in the world.

"I acquired a lot of new knowledge, not only during the excursion to the factory but also during lectures which were devoted to areas such as logistics, marketing or the issues of waste utilization. I valued cooperation in an international team where we addressed a case study about biofuel in transport very positively," says Denisa Římalová, a student of ŠKODA AUTO University, about the event.
